Directed by Gina Kaufmann

Music by Kurt Weill, Lyrics by Langston Hughes, & Book by Elmer Rice

Summary

In a working class Manhattan neighborhood in 1929, tensions build as the people in this multi-ethnic neighborhood rub up against one another. The story centers primarily on an extramarital affair and a romance between a Jewish and a gentile teenager, but the rich undertones of longing and the layered relationships bring this entire complex little world to life. Weill called it “An American Opera”, interweaving jazz, musical theatre and classical opera esthetics with spoken word.

Rehearsal Schedule Jan. 5-Jan. 11, 2014

Thank-you everyone involved in the first couple of days of rehearsal! It is great to finally get started on this wonderful project.

A few announcements and reminders:
1. Please check your e-mails nightly for updated rehearsal schedules. As we move forward in the process, the schedule will be updated depending on the work done during the day. It is imperative that you are vigilant about checking these updates as you may have been added for an afternoon or evening rehearsal that you were not previously called for.
2. Please arrive promptly to rehearsal. As you know, there are many people involved in this production, and prompt arrival aids the process. If you are going to be late, even by 5 minutes, please call or text a member of the stage management team (all of our phone numbers are below.) Lateness by even 5 minutes holds up the entire rehearsal and is disrespectful to your fellow company members.
Stage Management Team:
Arielle Herold (SM): 781-413-7695Kathryn McNall (ASM): 339-203-0173Jessica Gill (ASM): 914-482-7922Mike Smith (ASM): 339-832-8885
3. Please arrive warmed up and prepared with your music, a pencil, and water to each rehearsal. If you are called for a 2pm rehearsal, we will begin at 2pm, with the expectation that you have warmed up prior. Stage management is in the space an hour before each rehearsal to prep the space, so if you would like to arrive early it is open and you are more than welcome to.
Please see below the schedule for the upcoming week of Street Scene rehearsals.

As always, please e-mail with questions. If it's urgent please use my cell phone.
